The 2026 Holiday Deal Calendar: When to Buy What
Holiday deals do not start on Black Friday anymore. They start in October and stretch into December, and the trick is not finding a sale — it is knowing which sale is actually the cheapest for the thing you want. TV buyers and toy buyers have completely different calendars.
I have tracked this cycle for years, and it barely moves. Here is the 2026 version, month by month, so you buy each item at its lowest price instead of its loudest advertisement.

October: the early birds get the real deals
October is the new November. The big fall sales events kick off the season, and every major retailer answers with its own early-holiday sale to lock in spending before the rush. The deals are real but selective: strong prices on house-brand devices, early toy discounts, and the first wave of holiday price cuts on small appliances.
Shop October for anything that could sell out — hot toys, popular electronics, the specific gift someone named. Those prices rarely improve later, and buying now skips the December shipping crunch. Skip October for TVs and laptops unless the price is genuinely historic. Their best weeks are still ahead.
Early November: the warm-up lap
The first three weeks of November look busy and are mostly theater. Retailers drip out “Black Friday preview” deals that are the same October prices with new branding. This is when you finalize the watchlist, not when you empty your wallet.
Use it for research instead. Write down the current price of everything on your list so you can recognize a real Black Friday drop when it lands. If a store has a price-adjustment policy, an early-November purchase with a generous return window can be a safe hedge. I have bought early and gotten the difference refunded more than once.
Black Friday week: the main event
November 27, 2026 — still the single best stretch of the year for TVs, major appliances, and video game hardware. Doorbuster pricing on big-screen TVs and flagship laptops hits its annual low, but only on the specific models the retailers chose to feature. Check that the model number matches the one you actually want.
The trap is the rest of the store: ordinary sale prices dressed up as doorbusters. Buy your researched targets and ignore the noise. And many “Black Friday” prices leak a week early now — in my experience, if your target hits your target price in the days before, take it. Friday-morning stock is a gamble.

Cyber Monday: the online categories peak
November 30 belongs to what ships in a box: laptops, headphones, smart-home gear, small kitchen appliances, clothing. Online retailers compete hardest here, so this is the day to compare the exact same model number across three or four stores.
It is also the stacking holiday. Cashback portals and coupon codes are most aggressive on Monday, and when I ran the math last year, a 10% cashback rate on top of a sale price beat the Friday sticker on most tech. Compute the final out-the-door price before declaring a winner.
December: shipping deadlines run the show
After Cyber Monday, the calendar stops being about sale events and starts being about shipping cutoffs. Deals keep appearing through mid-December, but the best prices thin out as inventory drops. If something is still at your target price in the first week of December, buy it. Waiting for a better deal risks paying for expedited shipping that wipes out the savings.
The genuine December bargains are winter apparel, holiday decor, and gift sets, which start clearing before Christmas. December 14 is Green Monday, the last big online-only sale before the ground shipping cutoffs — our green-monday-deals-guide-2026 guide has the playbook, and the carrier-by-carrier cutoff tables are in our holiday-shipping-deadlines-2026 guide. After December 25, the clearance is real: leftover inventory, TVs, and fitness gear drop to annual lows in the last week of the year.
Frequently asked questions
When is Black Friday 2026?
November 27, 2026. It remains the main event for TVs, robot vacuums, and doorbuster categories.
Is Cyber Monday 2026 better than Black Friday?
For online categories like laptops, yes — laptops historically bottom on Cyber Monday (November 30, 2026), while big-box categories favor Black Friday week.
Should I wait until December to buy gifts?
Only if you must — by December the constraint is shipping deadlines, not prices. For hot toys, buy early when you find them in stock and hedge with retailer return policies.
